The foundational ELS finding by Rabbi Michael Weissmandl in the 1940s, by hand, before computers. Genesis and Exodus encode תוֹרָה (Torah) at skip +50 from near each book's opening; Numbers and Deuteronomy do the same backward at skip −50. Leviticus, the centre, contains יהוה (YHWH) openly. Four arrows point inward. The centre stands openly.

What this poster is

The opening poster of the printed art-book. Its job is pedagogical: teach the viewer what an ELS is, and do it using the most foundational finding in the entire field — the Weissmandl discovery that triggered the Bible-codes era.

The finding (Rabbi Michael Weissmandl, 1940s, by hand)

Each of the four books surrounding Leviticus encodes the Hebrew word תּוֹרָה (Torah) as an Equidistant Letter Sequence at skip 49 or 50, starting near each book's opening:

Book Skip Direction Start
Genesis +50 forward letter position 5 (the first ת of the entire Torah, in בְּרֵאשִׁית "Bereshit")
Exodus +50 forward position 78071 (near the opening of שְׁמוֹת "Shemot")
Numbers −49 / −50 backward near the opening of בְּמִדְבַּר "Bemidbar"
Deuteronomy −49 / −50 backward near the opening of דְּבָרִים "Devarim"

In Leviticus itself, no תּוֹרָה ELS at this skip. Instead, the divine name יהוה (YHWH) is openly written hundreds of times in the surface text and densely encoded throughout. The centre of the Torah is where the LORD stands openly.

Why it matters

The four arrows point inward to Leviticus. The centre stands openly. Genesis and Exodus arrow forward into Leviticus; Numbers and Deuteronomy arrow backward into Leviticus. The four arrows say Torah. The centre says YHWH. Together: the Torah points to the LORD.

This is the seed of every other poster in this book.

Genesis 1:1 — verified live by Berea, 2026-04-25

Reading every fiftieth letter forward from the first ת of the Torah:

Result: תורה — Torah. The first letter, plus every fiftieth letter forward, spells the name of the book itself.

Reproducibility

berea call els_search ref="Genesis 1:1" word="תורה" \
  skip_min=50 skip_max=50 max_results=5

Anyone running this command against the Berea-loaded Koren Torah gets the identical match at position 5, skip +50.

Citations

All findings are reproducible with one command in Berea — see the verse-signal call above. The Hebrew letters of the Torah do not change between runs.
